When it comes to rice agriculture, India is a world-renowned country. In the months of January to October, India’s rice exports increased by 43 percent above the previous year’s figures. During the time period specified, the country was able to export 11.95 million tonnes of rice to foreign countries. This is a greater figure than the previous year’s total of 8.34 million tonnes.

This year’s export volume of non-basmati rice saw a significant increase. According to government data, the country has shipped more than 61 percent of non-basmati rice compared to the previous year’s export amount of 7.6 million tonnes.

So far, the year 2020 has been favorable for basmati rice exporters. According to the most recent data, exporters exported 4.36 million tonnes of basmati rice overseas this year. It’s worth noting that the Gulf countries are big basmati rice importers from India. India has currently exported approximately 14 million tonnes of rice over the world.

For non-basmati rice exports, India focuses mostly on African and Middle Eastern countries. However, the United States and European countries are the primary importers of Indian basmati rice. Other big rice importers from our country are Singapore, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Australia, and others.

Despite stiff competition from other countries, India is the world’s second-largest rice exporter. The Indian government has specified simplified Export-Import Commerce policies in order to avoid the hassles and intricacies of foreign trade. In addition, the government cut the price of rice on the worldwide market in order to boost exports.

Important Documents to Consider When Exporting Rice from India

The following part will explain the key paperwork that will allow you to export rice from India.

1. Registration of a Business

In order to start an export business in India, you must first register your company. The procedure for registering a business is rather basic and quick. All you have to do is go to the Ministry of Corporate Affairs’ website and fill out the SPICe + online application. From a legal standpoint, such registration provides much-needed firmness and command to the business structure.

2. PAN Card for the Company

PAN Cards serve as verification of a company’s identity and are vitally important to get. The company’s PAN card normally includes a ten-digit alphanumeric code that comprises all of the entity’s information. The PAN card application can be completed on the NDSL’s official website.

3. Codes for Import and Export (IEC)

The IEC is a legal requirement for exporters and importers alike. To make an online application for the same, go to the website of the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT). To obtain IEC Registration, applicants must provide some important documents with their application. In the next segment of this blog, we’ll talk about the IEC.

4. Registration under the APEDA Act

APEDA registration is required for persons who work with the scheduling products listed below. An online approach can be used to obtain such registration.

Floriculture and floriculture products are two types of floriculture.

  • Meat and meat-related products
  • Products made from honey, jaggery, and sugar
  • Poultry and poultry-related products
  • Products derived from milk
  • Fruits, vegetables, and their derivatives
  • Cocoa and its derivatives
  • Bakery, confectionery, and biscuits
  • Walnuts, groundnuts, and peanuts
  • Cereals and cereal-related products
  • Beverages, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic
  • Chutneys, pickles, and papads
  • Medicinal and herbal plants
  • Guar gum is a type of gum that is used to

To be eligible for APEDA registration, the applicant must complete a web-based application within one month of starting their exporting business. If the exporter fails to do so within the specified time frame owing to reasonable cause, the authority may extend the deadline.

The authorities will award the Registration Cum Membership– once the application is properly filed and furnished by the applicant, together with the requisite fee.

  • Import Export Code is one of the documents required to obtain Import Export Code.
  • Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI)

Those wishing to start a food business in India must obtain an FSSAI Food License. This FSSAI license is issued by the FSSAI itself and has a flexible validity period of one or five years. Keep in mind that a food license is also required for exporting edible commodities to nations outside of the United States.

ISO 9001:2008 Certification

ISO accreditation indicates that a corporation adheres to stringent quality standards when producing items. To receive such a certification, you may have to go through a slew of prerequisites and procedures. ISO certification ensures that the product and services provided by a company are of the highest possible quality.

Registration for the GST

The IEC holder has the option of paying IGST on shipping and subsequently claiming a refund under GST legislation. For exporters all over India, the process of claiming a refund has been simplified. It means that the exporter will no longer be required to file a separate reimbursement application for goods or services exported. For the exporters, the shipping bill serves as a reimbursement claim.

Instructions for Obtaining the Import Export Code (Procedural Instructions)

The Import Export Code will assist you in shipping the edible item internationally. The IEC is issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade in accordance with the rules set forth in the Export-Import Policy (EXIM) and the Foreign Trade Policy. The procedure for acquiring the Import Export Code using an online approach is outlined below. Make sure you follow the procedure step by step, without skipping any.

Step 1: Go to the DGFT portal by typing the following URL into your browser. https://dgft.gov.in/CP

Step 2: Now you must select “Apply for IEC” from the drop-down menu. On your screen will appear a page with various blank fields.

Step 3: On the following screen, you will be required to provide personal information such as your name, address, and contact information.

Step 4: After completing the previous steps, choose “Send OTP” to receive a One Time Password from the portal on your phone and email address. Return to the portal’s home page and tap on the “Apply IEC” button again, this time using the correct login information.

Step 5: The Import Export Code form will show on your computer as soon as you access the login tab.

Step 6: Begin the filing process by inputting the ownership type and bank account information. (Note: the banking information that should be included in the form should be linked to an existing current account.) After that, be sure to save and next by uploading the soft copy of the canceled checkbook.

Step 7: Select “Preferred sectors of operations” from the drop-down menu, then Acceptance of Undertaking/Declaration. After you’ve made your selections, use the “Save and Next” button to continue the procedure.

Step 8: Finally, scroll down to the application’s last section and press the “Sign” button. Then proceed to fulfil the payment requirement by submitting the fees that have been required. You will be able to export rice to other nations once you have obtained this certificate.

Conclusion:

The government’s attempts to encourage international trade through various programs are beginning to bear fruit. The food sector can expand into previously untouched and unknown markets, which have enormous potential in terms of consumer base and revenue generation.
